Visit "Prayer" Exhibit at Art Institute of Chicago

What an honor for members of Makom Shalom and our Board of Directors to have our own Reb Michael’s contribution to "Prayer," an exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago. Prayer is an ongoing project remade around the word since its first presentation in Cape Town in 2000.

It opened on September 6, 2018 at the Art Institute of Chicago and runs through the end of 2018.

Thur, Oct 25, 6:30 PM Red/Blue Depolarization skills Workshop at Grace Lutheran Church, Evanston

With Thanksgiving approaching, and the anticipation of sitting around an extended family dinner table, there's a lot of stress among family members and friends who are divided politically, and the current polarized public conversation doesn't help. Please join us for this Better Angels Workshop to learn skills for having respectful conversations that clarify differences, search for common ground, and affirm the importance of the relationship.

We'll meet at 3 pm and with many hands we'll finish quickly. Then folks will be able to enjoy it all week. If you have any outdoor chairs you can spare, bring them along.

At the Makom Family School, children will make decorations for our Sukkah. It's a team effort!

Sun, Aug 26, 10:30 AM Selichot Service at EncounterPoint in Edgewater

As we approach the High Holy Days, that period of awe and redemption, and in the spirit of the pre-Rosh Hashanah Selichot, this program will allow us to explore the concepts of forgiveness and return, through text study, discussion, modern writings and poetry. As we work with these concepts, we'll also have an opportunity to write our own text - and so add to the sacred canon of our people, creating The Book of Forgiveness.
